Marcus Maroney received his B.M. from the University of Texas at Austin and his M.M. and M.M.A. degrees from the Yale School of Music. Mr. Maroney has studied with several preeminent American composers, including Ned Rorem, Joseph Schwantner, David Del Tredici, Joan Tower, Alvin Singleton, and Dan Welcher. As a fellow at the 1999 Tanglewood Music Center, he also studied with George Benjamin. Mr. Maroney was awarded a Charles Ives Scholarship from the American Academy of Arts and Letters, awards from ASCAP, consecutive Woods Chandler Memorial Prizes from Yale University, the First Hearing Prize from the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music’s Music 2000 prize. Toronto's Gryphon Trio has given international performances of his Introduction and Barrage, a work commissioned for them by the Norfolk Chamber Music Festival. Marcus is currently composing a flute quartet on commission from the Orchestra of St. Luke's and a work for Eighth Blackbird's 10th anniversary season (2005-6). He received an Aaron Copland House Award and will be in residence at the Copland House March 10-April 10, 2005. Marcus served on the faculty of the Yale School of Music from 2002-4 and now resides in Houston, Texas.
